Over the last few years, many beloved television series and movies have been rebooted or remade with a modern twist. While some of these have succeeded many have been a disappointment for fans. Now, another classic is being given an update, as a ‘Wizard of Oz’ remake is currently in the works, and fans are hoping this one is able to live up to the hype.
Director Nicole Kassell will reportedly lead the project for New Line Cinema, according to Variety. While they will use elements from the original L. Frank Baum’s book ‘The Wonderful Wizard of Oz,’ and the beloved 1939 film starring Judy Garland, New Line is promising a “fresh take” on Dorothy and Oz. “While the 1939 musical is part of my DNA, I am exhilarated and humbled by the responsibility of re-imagining such a legendary tale,” said Kassell.
At this time, there is no word on casting for the upcoming project. Still, fans are already giving suggestions on who they believe should take on the iconic roles. Hopefully, this is a remake Hollywood can get right.
