It has been almost two year since Popeye’s started the chicken sandwich wars, and since then almost every fast food chain has jumped on board with their own variation of the popular dish. Now, a candy company has decided to get in on the action as well. Airheads unveiled an unusual chicken sandwich on Tuesday for National Fried Chicken Day that included a bun made entirely out of Airheads Xtremes.
The sugary variation of the chicken sandwich included fried chicken, coleslaw, spicy mayo and pickles, along with the rainbow colored sour candy bun. “The Airheads brand is about play, and we thought it was time to play in the chicken wars,” said an Airheads representative. Sadly, the viral sandwich was only available for one day, in celebration of the fried chicken holiday.
According to Brobible, it is unknown if Airheads plans to bring back their “Candy Chicken Sandy.” Still, many fans are hoping it eventually returns so they can give the viral sandwich a try. While some may be excited for the sandwich, this may be what finally ends the chicken sandwich wars.
