When it comes to pets, most families tend to stick with a dog or a cat. However, one Texas family decided to take things a step further, having an alligator as a pet for nearly 20 years. Sadly it was recently discovered that the alligator was originally stolen from a Texas zoo and has now been returned to its original home.
Texas Game Wardens recently discovered an eight-foot alligator living inside a Texas home, south of Austin, after receiving a 'hunting without landowner consent' call. According to NBC DFW, the alligator was originally stolen by a volunteer at the Animal World & Snake Farm Zoo in New Braunfels 20 years ago. At the time, the alligator was still egg or hatchling.

While officials report the family kept good care of the alligator over the years, they still warn alligators should not be kept as pets. Now, the gator is back at the New Braunfels zoo. Luckily it isn’t far from the family’s home so they can visit their former pet.
