There are many people who thought by now the world would have flying cars, jet packs and maybe even robot butlers. While these things haven’t been perfected yet, there are quite a few products that make it seem like we are truly living in the future. One of those is self-driving cars, and while that technology is still in its infancy, a major step in its growth is currently underway in DFW.

Autonomous tech company Aurora recently announced they have begun testing their self-driving minivans in the DFW area. The company teamed with Toyota to put their technology inside Toyota Sienna minivans. Each car will have two human backup drivers on board during the testing stage. According to Fox News, the autonomous vehicles being tested are operating on a simulated ride-hailing route that includes highway travel up to 70 mph.

“The route showcases Aurora's ability to safely operate at highway speeds, a key technical differentiator that allows it to prioritize popular and lucrative rides," said Aurora. No announcement on the vehicles official launch date has been made at this time. With this, the future is truly right around the corner.
