Every year brings new trends, but usually by December just about everyone is tired of them and ready to move on. This is especially true for words and phrases that quickly go from commonplace to overuse in 12 months. Now, Lake Superior State University has unveiled their annual banished words list, including some 2021 phrases no one wants to hear in 2022.

Lake Superior State University has been releasing a list of words that need to be banished every year since 1976. Usually they include words and phrases that pop up because of pop culture or global news stories, and become tiresome throughout the year. 2021 had plenty of words that fall under that umbrella, and the university made sure to include them. The newest list of banished words includes; "Deep dive," "New normal," "You're on mute" and "Supply chain."

The other phrases that made the list this year were; "Wait, what?," "No worries," "At the end of the day," "That being said," "Asking for a friend," and "Circle back." According to CNN, the list is created using thousands of words and phrases that are submitted by people worldwide. Maybe this year the world can try not overusing words and phrases so much.
