Most coffee drinkers want to get the caffeine in their system as quickly and easily as possible, but for those that are obsessed with coffee, finding the right barista can really take the experience to a new level. In DFW, one barista is making a name for himself thanks to his work as an ambassador of Dallas coffee. Now, he will take his skills on the road, as he competes in the US Coffee Championships later this month.
On September 9-10, local barista Ian McGee will take his talents to Raleigh, North Carolina where he will compete in the preliminary round of the US Coffee Championships. The 15 minute competition calls for each barista to make two espressos and two cappuccinos, then create a personally designed signature beverage, according to Dallas Observer. McGee, who is from North Carolina originally, has been a barista for nearly a decade and currently works at Fiction Coffee in Deep Ellum.

“For the baristas competing, you have to give a presentation about what coffee means to you. My presentation is going to be about the relationship between coffee and people,” said McGee. The barista hopes to put Dallas on the coffee map. With a win at the US Coffee Championships, he will do just that.
