DFW has mixed emotions about the OU football team. As the home of one of the biggest rivalry games in college football, most of the metroplex is split between Oklahoma University fans and fans of the University of Texas. Of course, any time one of our own is involved, North Texans will always show their support. That’s why many were thrilled this weekend when DFW’s own Kyler Murray received a statue in Norman for his time playing quarterback for OU.
Back in 2018, Bedford-born and alumni of Allen High School, Kyler Murray, won the Heisman trophy while playing at Oklahoma University. Murray has since moved on to the NFL where he is currently the starting quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals. However, this weekend Murray returned to his alma mater where he was honored with a statue outside Memorial Stadium.
According to CBS Texas, the statue is located in Heisman Park, where there are statues of all the schools Heisman Trophy winners. Along with Murray, there are statues for Billy Vessels, Steve Owens, Billy Sims, Jason White, Sam Bradford and Baker Mayfield. At least now those in the metroplex that aren’t fans of OU will have something positive to say about the school.
