There have been many great athletes to come through DFW over the years, but arguably none have been as beloved as Dallas Mavericks’ legend Dirk Nowitzki. The future hall of famer already has been honored with a street named after him, and his jersey hanging in the rafters of American Airlines Center, but this weekend he will be getting one more tribute. On Sunday, the Dirk Nowitzki statue is expected to finally be unveiled.
Christmas Day will be a big day for the Dallas Mavericks. Not only are they playing at home on Christmas for the first time in years, but they will finally debut the Dirk Nowitzki statue that has been teased since he retired. According to NBA.com, the unveiling will take place on Sunday when the Mavericks take on the Los Angeles Lakers.

Not much is known about the unveiling ceremony at this time. However, some who have traveled by the stadium in recent days have seen crews hard at work getting the statue ready. Soon, the Mavericks’ legend will be immortalized outside the stadium forever.
