Teaching is one of the most difficult careers one can choose to go into. Despite most understanding the importance of education, teachers are some of the most undervalued professionals in the country. Luckily for one North Texas teacher, her hard work didn’t go unnoticed, as Drew Barrymore recently brought her show to Plummer Elementary to shower the teacher with some much deserved gifts.
Patricia Byrd is a former principal in Cedar Hill ISD and superintendent of FOCUS Academies that went back to teaching in 2018 to help support her husband’s cancer treatments. Now at Plummer Elementary in Cedar Springs, Mrs. Byrd has become a favorite of many students and faculty, as she helped reconfigure the fourth grade class structure after the school learned it would be down one teacher for the year, according to Dallas Morning News. Now, her hard work is being honored by none other than Drew Barrymore.

Mrs. Byrd was surprised by Barrymore recently, who showed up to the school with a $20,000 check for Plummer elementary, along with an invite for the teacher to meet her “best friends in her head” Chip and Joanna Gaines, and an all-expenses paid trip to a Florida resort with her husband. Hopefully Mrs. Byrd keeps the work up, helping to mold the future of DFW.
