As many anglers know, it’s quite common to hit the water for a day of fishing only to come back empty handed. Of course, when the fish do start biting it’s always a satisfying feeling. One Texas fisherman recently got that experience, and then some, after he reeled in a record breaking alligator gar that was bigger than him.
The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department recently took to social media to share photos of a massive fish that was caught at Lake Corpus Christi. The fish, a 207-pound alligator gar, is a record catch for the lake, though still almost 100 pounds less than the official state record. According to My San Antonio, the angler took photos lying next to the fish to show its size before releasing it back in the water.
As seen in the now viral photo, the alligator gar is significantly taller than the angler. “move over, Rover,” The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department captioned the photo. Thanks to this catch, the angler now has a story to tell for years to come.
