Pulling off an epic April Fool’s Day prank is difficult, as many are expecting plenty of jokes on the holiday. Yet, year after year people get duped by brands making shocking announcements that leave them wondering “why would anyone want this?” This year is no different, as April Fool’s Day 2022 got off to a quick start in DFW when Fletcher’s Corny Dogs announced they will be selling “deep fried air” at this year’s state fair.
Fletcher’s Corny Dogs is a State Fair of Texas staple. While others try to shock attendees by frying up something that has never been seen before, Fletcher’s sticks to the classics, giving customers a variety of corn dogs. However, they tricked many of their most devout fans on April 1, claiming they would begin selling empty corn dogs known as deep fried air. “Sure to be a 2022 F-air favorite, Deep Fried Air is perfect for people from all walks of life, including vegans and vegetarians,” Fletcher’s said in a statement announcing the new menu item.
Of course, this ended up being an April Fool’s Day prank, according to Dallas Morning News. Many throughout DFW were shocked; though some were disappointed they wouldn’t get to try deep fried air. Maybe this prank will turn into reality by the time the fair comes back to town.
