Every high school student dreams of the day their parents go out of town and they get an empty house all to themselves. While the empty house may be used for a number of things, it’s a guarantee every kid at one point will strip down to their underwear, put on Bob Seger’s ‘Old Time Rock & Roll, and bust out their best lip sync performance. This is all because of the 1983 film ‘Risky Business’ which taught the world what to do when parents leave town.
1983’s ‘Risky Business’ helped launch the career of Tom Cruise, who played High-achieving high school student Joel Goodson. In the film, Goodson takes advantage of his parents leaving their house to him while they are out of town, doing his best adult impression and getting into plenty of trouble. Of course, what the film is best known for is Goodson’s initial reaction to his parents leaving; turning up the music and busting a move.
The film not only created a go-to Halloween costume for many, but it taught the world even the less popular kids know how to have fun. Thanks to ‘Risky Business’ people will be dancing in their underwear for years to come. Here’s to one of the great moments in party history!
