Summer may be in full swing, but some are already starting to look towards fall. While the seasonal change usually brings better weather and an overflow of pumpkin spice, it also adds candy to many diets thanks to Halloween. However, this year things may be a little different as Hershey recently announced they are expecting a Halloween candy shortage.
With ongoing supply chain issues, and a rise in demand, Hershey doesn’t think they will be able to produce enough Halloween candy this year. The candy company claimed they are currently not able to meet the demand for regular and Halloween-themed candy. “We had a strategy of prioritizing everyday on-shelf availability. That was a choice that we needed to make. It was a tough decision,” said Hershey CEO Michele Buck.

While Hershey has seen a spike in sales, they have also had to make some product sacrifices as well, according to CNN. The demand and supply chain issues could affect other candy companies as well. Hopefully this issue is resolved before October, or it could mean toothbrushes and healthy snacks this year for Halloween.
