For most Texans, no road trip is complete without a stop at Buc-ee’s. The Texas-based gas station chain is one of the most beloved businesses in the Lone Star state, but sadly many in DFW are forced to drive quite a distance to find their nearest location. That’s why many were thrilled when a Buc-ee’s “coming soon” sign popped up in Highland Park, only to find out later it was just a cruel prank.

Over the weekend, residents in Highland Park noticed a new sign at the intersection of Armstrong Avenue and Lakeside Drive with a familiar logo. The sign read “COMING SOON!!! Best Place to Pee in HP,” along with a Buc-ee’s logo. Images of the sign, which stood on wooden boards propped up with stones, were shared on Nextdoor, and while some were excited many others were immediately skeptical.

According to Dallas Morning News, the Highland Park Police had no knowledge of the sign, and the environmental company working on the vacant patch of land didn’t know anything about it either. Buc-ee’s later confirmed that there was no plans to bring Buc-ee’s to Highland Park, saying “Our guests will have to travel to one of our other DFW locations for award-winning clean restrooms.” While most pranks are funny, this one definitely hurt some feelings in North Texas.
