Every summer, a lull in professional sports forces fans to focus their attention on a different competition, spelling. The Scripps National Spelling Bee has attracted fans for years as it takes over ESPN for a few days of competition. This year’s main event is happening next week and one DFW sixth grader is hoping this is her year to take home the top prize.
Vivinsha Veduru of Keller’s Bear Creek Intermediate School stunned many last year when she became the youngest of the finalists in the competition, finishing 4th overall. Now, Veduru is hoping to take her game to the next level bringing the trophy home to DFW. “Prior experience of National Spelling Bee participation will help me to better handle competition pressure and time management on the stage,” said Veduru.

According to Fort Worth Star Telegram, the Scripps National Spelling Bee will take place at the Walt Disney World’s ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Florida from May 31-June 2. “Every competitor at the Bee is cheering fellow spellers, and that is my favorite thing about spelling bees,” said Veduru. While she will be cheering on her fellow competitors, the young speller is hoping this is her year.
