The return of Batman to the big screen is only a few months away, and fan anticipation is at an all-time high. Now, director Matt Reeves has given fans yet another reason to get excited for ‘The Batman.’ Reeves recently revealed that his version of the caped crusader was inspired by Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain.

When the first trailer for ‘The Batman’ was released, many fans were surprised to hear Nirvana’s ‘Something in the Way’ featured in the preview. However, now Matt Reeves has revealed why he chose to use the Nirvana song in the trailer. “When I write, I listen to music, and as I was writing the first act, I put on Nirvana's ‘Something In The Way’… That's when it came to me that, rather than make Bruce Wayne the playboy version we've seen before, there's another version who had gone through a great tragedy and become a recluse,” said Reeves.

According to Ultimate Classic Rock, the Kurt Cobain inspiration led the director to selecting Robert Pattinson as Batman as well. “He's also got that Kurt Cobain thing, where he looks like a rock star, but you also feel like he could be a recluse,” said Reeves. Now Batman fans have a new reason to rock out to Nirvana.
