For most college students, heating something up in the microwave is about as close to cooking a meal as they get. However, for Dallas College student Preston Nguyen, cooking is more than just a necessity for eating. Now, Nguyen is getting the chance to show off his cooking skills on the grand stage, competing in the World Food Championships this week with a top prize of $100,000 on the line.

Back in 2021, chef Preston Nguyen won a World Food Championship competition, earning him a spot in this weekend final table event in South Carolina. Now, the 19-year-old will compete against nine other chefs for the chance to go home with $100,000, according to CW33. "This upcoming Final Table competition is a Cinderella story come true. I have always had a passion for food and had planned on working hard and walking down the culinary path. With the win in November and the support of Dallas College, so many doors have opened," said Nguyen.

The event kicks off this today and runs throughout the weekend. It is unknown what Nguyen plans to cook for the final competition, but many throughout the metroplex are supporting the young chef. Hopefully he can bring home the top prize and maybe a few leftovers as well.
