Not many have reached one billion views on YouTube, as Astley’s debut song joins an exclusive list that includes A-Ha’s ‘Take On Me’, Nirvana’s ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ and Queen’s ‘Bohemian Rhapsody.’ The song has gained many views in recent years, thanks to the “Rickrolling” meme where people share a link that redirects users to the ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’ music video. Celebrating the achievement, Rick Astley said “I am kind of a big deal.”

According to NME, Astley will mark the achievement by releasing a new ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’ limited edition signed, numbered and colored 7” vinyl single. Many fans celebrated by going to YouTube and giving the video more views. Now the race is on to see who will join the exclusive group next.
