Dive bars are usually known for being smaller establishments that don’t go overboard on frills. Rarely are they included on lists of “best bars,” however when compared to other dive bars, DFW is home to some pretty good options. A new book coming out about dive bars looked at the 12 best in Texas, and two North Texas bars were included.
‘Texas Dives: Enduring Neighborhood Bars of the Lone Star State’ by Anthony Head describes some of the best dive bars Texas has to offer. There are 12 bars in 12 Texas cities profiled in the book, due out this month, according to Dallas Morning News. As for DFW, two local spots made it into the book; The Goat in Dallas and A Great Notion in Fort Worth.

Other Texas bars profiled were Riley’s Tavern in Hunter, Mynars Bar in West, La Perla in Austin, The Wizzard in Galveston, Alice’s Tall Texan in Houston and more. As for the North Texas bars, both have become local favorites over the years for a variety of reasons. Hopefully fame from this book doesn’t turn them into non-dive bar.
