It seems like driving in DFW is more expensive than ever before, and sadly for some it’s about to get even more expensive. Drivers without a TollTag account will soon be paying twice as much to use toll roads as those who do. Starting next month the ZipCash price will increase from 20 cents per mile to 21 cents per mile.
The North Texas Tollway Authority recently announced an increase to ZipCash prices starting July 1st. According to Fox 4 News, the ZipCash price is currently 50% higher than TollTag, but will increase to 100% higher with the changes. This is part of a plan to increase the rates every other year.
"This increase in toll rates will help NTTA repay $9.5 billion borrowed to construct our system of safe, clean and convenient toll roads. The rate increase also helps fund our capital plan, including the current expansion of the Dallas North Tollway,” said NTTA Board Chairman Marcus Knight. While many will be unhappy with these changes, maybe it will keep more drivers off the toll roads.
