There are many different routes a dog owner can go when naming their new canine companion. While some stick with the classics, others may go for something silly or a pop culture reference for their dog's name. Another popular choice is naming it after a local sports figure, and here in DFW there are plenty to choose from. Now, the North Richland Hills police department has hopped on the trend as well, introducing their new K-9 officer, "Luka Dogcic."
Earlier this week, the North Richland Hills police department took to social media to show off their newest addition, a one-year-old Belgian Malinois named after Dallas Mavericks star, Luka Doncic. "The newest crime-fighting duo is out on the streets and already working hard protecting the community," said the police department in their now viral post. According to CW33, the one-year-old dog is from Holland and has spent the last six weeks training with its handler, Officer Matt Boyd.
"The team recently returned from the extensive training program, where they trained in both narcotic detection and patrol functions," said the police department. Luka Dogcic's first night on the job was a success, helping to apprehend a fleeing suspect. Just like his NBA player namesake, no one can stop Luka Dogcic.
