North Texas to open first state park in 25 years in 2023

2023 will be a big year for the Texas Park and Wildlife Department, as it will mark their 100th anniversary. To celebrate, the department recently announced a new state park will be added in North Texas next year. The Palo Pinto Mountains State Park will feature miles of trails for North Texans and visitors to enjoy.

After 25 years, North Texas will finally have a state park again. The Palo Pinto Mountains State Park is located in the town of Strawn, 75 miles west of Fort Worth and 75 miles east of Abilene. According to NBC DFW, there is currently 4,871 acres of undeveloped land that will soon be turned into 16 to 18 miles of trails for hiking, biking and horse riding.

The new state park will also feature four separated campgrounds for camping with RVs available, as well as fishing, swimming and boating at the park’s centerpiece, Tucker Lake. Expected to open in 2023, the park will be ready just in time for the Texas Park and Wildlife Department’s centennial. Soon North Texas will have another great spot for outdoor activities.
