As temperatures begin to rise, in certain parts of the country alligators have begun emerging from the waters and venturing back onto land. While alligator sightings are pretty rare in North Texas, every once in a while one of these reptiles makes its way to the streets of DFW. Many in Plano recently thought they spotted their first alligator sighting of the year; however it turned out to be a late April fool’s Day prank.

On Monday, a number of drivers called the Plano Animal Shelter after seeing what they thought to be an alligator sitting on the side of the road. The suspected alligator was seen on the westbound lanes of the George Bush Tollway during rush hour. However, when animal services arrived at the scene, it wasn’t an alligator they found, but instead a very realistic alligator toy.

According to Fox 4 News, it is unknown how the alligator toy ended up on the side of the road. Now, the toy is part of the animal shelter’s Easter display. Hopefully the next time an actual alligator shows up, they don’t think it’s just another toy.
