A DFW staple may soon be going away, but not if a group of Richardson residents have anything to do with it. Anyone who has driven countless miles up and down U.S. Highway 75 has likely spotted the colorful Como Motel in Richardson. Sadly, the motel that has been in that spot for 67 years may soon be demolished. That’s why a group of North Texans have launched a petition in hopes of keeping the motel in place.

The Como Motel went up for sale two weeks ago and was sold to an unknown buyer who plans to turn the space either into a restaurant or a parking lot. However, a group of Richardson residents hope to stop that after launching a new petition on Change.org. "As a resident and a business owner, it would be devastating to see the Como Motel torn down. It's a rich icon, a gateway to our city, a historic landmark,” said Beyond the Bar co-owner Reid Robinson.

According to Dallas Observer, the petition has already received over 1,500 signatures. They hope to convince the new owners to preserve the motel for its historical significance and the commercial opportunities it can provide to Richardson's downtown district. Maybe if it the movement gets enough support, the Como Motel will remain.
