When billionaire Jeff Bezos announced plans last month to travel to space, many were stunned the Amazon founder was willing to make the daring trip. Now, another billionaire has announced plans to travel to space as well, and will do so nine days before Bezos. Richard Branson announced recently he will travel to space on his Virgin Galactic spacecraft on July 11.
The billionaire space race took another turn recently with Branson now traveling to space as well. The Virgin Group founder will make embark on the Unity 22 mission taking off from New Mexico on Sunday, giving him the title of “The First Billionaire to go to Space.” According to CNN, Branson had already planned to travel to space, but rescheduled plans in order to beat Jeff Bezos.
“I would love Jeff Bezos to come and see our flight off,” said Branson. Once in space, Branson will officially have the upper hand over Bezos and Elon Musk in the billionaire space race. Maybe one day people who aren’t billionaires will be able to go to space as well.
