Six Flags and Schlitterbahn are two of the most iconic brands in the state, though neither of them now calls Texas home.

Six Flags Entertainment Corporation announced a massive $8 billion merger with Cedar Fair, the parent company of Schlitterbahn, that the companies state will create "leading amusement park operator in the highly competitive leisure space with an expanded and diversified footprint, a more robust operating model and a strong revenue and cash flow generation profile."

Unfortunately, the base of operations for Six Flags will be moving from Arlington to its new home in Charlotte, North Carolina.

According to the Six Flags website, the new company will operate under the "Six Flags" name and along with their headquarters in North Carolina, will "maintain significant finance and administrative operations in Sandusky, Ohio," where Cedar Fair is based.

How this will change Texans' experiences at Six Flags Fiesta Texas in San Antonio and Six Flags over Texas in Arlington remains to be determined.

Per Fox Business, "the merger is expected to close in the first half of 2024, following "receipt of Six Flags shareholder approval, regulatory approvals and satisfaction of customary closing conditions."
