Any time there is heavy smoke or fire in an area, there is reason to be alarmed. However, for those that have spotted something burning near DFW Airport recently, officials want them to know it’s nothing to worry about.
Throughout the month of May the DFW Fire Training Research Center will be performing exercises at the airport, leading to plenty of smoke in the area.
Starting last week, the DFW Fire Training Research Center began performing their fire drills. While some have already reported seeing smoke in the area, officials warn this will continue throughout the month. “If you happen to see fire and burning activity at DFW Airport, it is our state-of-the-art Fire Training Research Center in action. During our training periods, you will see black smoke as a result of these training fires,” said the airport.

According to CW33, the training began on May 3, and will continue through May 27. The airport included a schedule as well, so those passing by would know when training was taking place. “We use many different aircraft-designed mock-ups, and purposely ignite the mock-ups to train these fire fighters,” DFW Airport said of the training. Hopefully this doesn’t lead to a “boy who cried wolf” scenarios.
