There are many aspects of the State Fair of Texas people think about year round, but for most it’s all about the food. Over the years, the dishes served at the fair have only become more extravagant, as more people join the competition in hopes of their fried concoction winning the prized Blue Ribbon award. Now, the State Fair of Texas has announced for the first time they will hold a preliminary cookoff for people hoping to have their dish served at the 2023 fair.

The State Fair of Texas may not open until the fall, but luckily for those wanting to get an early taste of the menu, the fair recently announced a new offseason cooking competition. The “Battle for the Blue Ribbons” will be a preliminary cookoff to help manage three of their most popular cookoffs. According to Dallas Culture Map, the competition will focus on cookies, cakes, and bread.

These three categories have become so popular in recent years; the new competition was needed to help create a set of semifinalists who move on to compete in the regular contests. The event will take place from May 19-21, in the Embarcadero Building at Fair Park. Thanks to this competition, even more people will now have the chance to have their food tasted at the State Fair of Texas.
