Opening day of the State Fair of Texas is just over a month away, which means many throughout the state are getting ready to bust out some looser fitting pants. While the rides, games and attractions at the fair are great, it's the food that really gets people excited. Now, the State Fair has unveiled their 10 finalists for the Big Tex Choice Awards, and this year's list may be their most mouth-watering yet.
Earlier this year, the State Fair of Texas announced the 36 semi-finalists for the Big Tex Choice Awards, which has introduced the world to some of the craziest fried food concoctions ever thought up. Now, they are down to 10 finalists, with five in the sweet category and five in the savory category. For the savory category, the finalists are Chicharron Explosion Nachos, Deep-Fried BLT, Deep-Fried Lasagna Roll, Fried Charcuterie Board and Holy Biscuit.
For the sweet side of things, the dishes competing are Cha-Cha Chata, Deep-Fried Rocky Road with Blue Bell Ice Cream, La Bluebonnet, Peanut Butter Paradise and The Ultimate Brookie Monster. According to NBC DFW, this year's theme for the competition was "treats of Texas." The State Fair of Texas opens September 30th, so these treats will be devoured soon enough.
