The dog vs cat debate is one that will go on throughout eternity. However, here in DFW the question has been answered for quite some time. A new study recently revealed DFW prefers dogs over cats, as the metroplex has the third most households with a dog in the United States.

DFW is a very pet friendly area, as an estimated 1.4 million metroplex households include a pet. However, even with multiple pets to choose from, the majority of North Texans prefer having a dog to come home to. New data from the U.S. Census revealed that 41% of DFW homes have at least one dog, which is the third highest in the country, according to Axios.

As for the other side of the pet debate, only 17% of DFW households own a cat. Of course, some other animals got into the mix as well, as 42,000 households own small mammals, 87,500 have fish, 66,000 have birds and 51,300 have reptiles. Based on these numbers, it’s clear North Texans are dog people.
