The sight of red and blue flashing lights in the rearview mirror is frustrating for every driver. No one enjoys getting a ticket, especially when they feel they did nothing wrong. Sadly, many Texas drivers may experience that feeling over the next few weeks as police in Texas are planning to crack down on speeding.
Texas law enforcement recently announced a crackdown on speeding over the next two weeks as part of "operation slowdown." New data has revealed speed as the number one cause for roadway crashes, according to CBS DFW. Throughout the state, speed was to blame for more than 160,000 traffic crashes last year.
In order to help keep the roads safe, police will be writing citations and law enforcement vehicles will spend extra time driving the roads at a safe speed. TxDOT is also trying to keep the roads safe, releasing driving tips such as "match your speed to road conditions if there's bad weather or you're driving through a work zone" and "slow down and allow for more distance to stop when traffic is heavy." Hopefully drivers can get through these weeks without multiple tickets.
