Texas Rangers opening day is Thursday, and to kick off the festivities the team is honoring their namesake. Throwing out the first pitch for the first game of the season will be Hurst DPS Trooper Reuben T. Mankin. The ceremony will commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Texas Rangers division within the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Before the Texas Rangers take the field at 3:05 P.M. to take on the Philadelphia Phillies for their first game of the year, 21 year veteran Texas Ranger Reuben T. Mankin will take the mound to throw out the ceremonial first pitch. According to Fox 4 News, Texas Governor Greg Abbott, former President George W. Bush and Texas Rangers legends Pudge Rodriguez and Nolan Ryan will be in attendance. Ranger Hall of Fame members Jim Sundberg, Toby Harrah, Tom Grieve, Jeff Russell, Michael Young, and Ian Kinsler will also take part in the pregame festivities.

Pregame ceremonies will begin at 2:30 P.M. Many are hoping this is the year the Rangers finally break through and win a World Series. Starting things off by honoring the Texas Rangers may just be the best way to kick things off.
