When the project to demolish the old Valley View Mall first began, many wondered what would become of the massive site near Interstate 635 and Preston Road. Now, over a year later the demolition has been complete and the plans for its next steps have been revealed. It was recently announced the new area will be called “Midtown Dallas,” and the first phase of the new plan is expected to break ground in early 2024.

While those passing by what was once Valley View Mall may currently only see a pile of rubble, it will soon be a $4 billion development that draws eyes for completely different reasons. According to WFAA, the plans for the development include trails, parks, shopping, restaurants, water features, hotels, condos, rental units, a theatre, an athletic and wellness facility, and a trolley system connecting Dallas Midtown to the Galleria Mall. "For those of us who have fond memories of Valley View Mall, including myself, as I was born and raised here in Dallas, today marks a new chapter in this story,” said Scott Beck of Beck Ventures, the developer behind the project.

The first phase of the project will be a mixed-use space that includes residential units, amenity space and retail that is expected to begin construction in 2024. With this new project, DFW will soon have another area full of entertainment.
