New footage suggests the shark that attacked a man in the Bay Area over the weekend isn't the first spotted in the area recently.
After a shark attacked a swimmer on Saturday on the coast of Gray Whale Cove State Beach in San Mateo County, Benjamin Holmes of Half Moon Bay's footage from a couple of weeks prior became even more chilling.
Holmes captured what he believes is a great white in drone footage he shot on June 11 off Gray Whale Cove State Beach, the same place as Saturday's attack.
"Since drones are illegal in that area, I was able to capture footage using a camera that identifies as a bird," said Holmes in his subsequent post to Instagram. "The shark appears to be a great white that’s at least 12+ feet in length."
"We ended up hurrying down to the beach to warn swimmers that the shark was stalking them just off shore," he said.
The San Mateo County Sheriff's Office said the 35-year-old man, who was out in the water swimming, was attacked by a young great white shark about six to eight feet long.
The shark bit the man’s right leg. Luckily he was able to swim to shore and call for medical help. First responders transported him to the hospital in Stanford, where he was initially listed in serious condition.
The beach at Gray Whale Cove has now been closed.
