When a young girl went overboard on Disney cruise over the weekend, her father and the ship’s crew were quick to start rescue efforts, according to reports.
The Street first reported on the incident that occurred this Sunday (June 29) aboard a Disney Dream cruise headed back to St. Lauderdale, Fla., from Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point in The Bahamas after a four-night trip. It said that her father dove into the Caribbean waters after the girl.
Citing social media posts – including this TikTok video – The Street said that many people aboard the ship were praying for the family and that both were successfully rescued. Some posts said that they heard the emergency code for man overboard and saw the crew quickly act to save the family.
“The crew aboard the Disney Dream swiftly rescued two guests from the water. We commend our crew members for their exceptional skills and prompt actions, which ensured the safe return of both guests to the ship within minutes,” said a statement provided to The Street. “We are committed to the safety and well-being of our guests, and this incident highlights the effectiveness of our safety protocols," a Disney Cruise Line spokesperson shared.”
This isn’t the fist time that a Disney cruise has saved people from the water. Last November, Audacy reported that the Disney Treasure cruise ship saved four people from a catamaran that was taking on water almost 265 miles from Bermuda ahead of its maiden voyage. In the recent Disney Dream case, the ship was not docked during the rescue mission.
According to The Independent, it is rare for people to go overboard on cruise ships.
