Ending 'wokeness' and more promises Trump made at his first post-election rally

During his first rally-style speech since winning the 2024 election, President-elect Donald Trump promised a "common sense revolution" when he returns to the White House.

Trump used the Sunday speech to conservative activists in Phoenix to paint a bleak picture of the previous administration under President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, promising a new era of peace and prosperity in his second term.

"My administration will live by the motto 'promises made, promises kept,'" he said.

One of Trump's first promises is ending "wokeness" and "transgender lunacy" on his first day in office, with immediate action against transgender rights, removing transgender individuals from the military and schools,  ending child sexual mutilation, and enforcing a binary gender policy.

"Under the Trump administration, it will be the official policy of the United States government that there are only two genders: male and female," he said.

"Woke has to stop," Trump added. "Because along with everything else, it's destroying our country. We're going to stop woke. Woke is bulls--t."

Trump doubled down on plans for a large-scale deportation operation and to address migrant crime, along with designating drug cartels as foreign terrorist organizations. He pledged to begin the largest deportation operation in American history, "larger even than that of President Dwight D. Eisenhower" in the 1950's.

"We will stop illegal immigration once and for all," he said. "We will get them out fast, and we have no choice."

Trump also vowed to restore U.S. control of the Panama Canal while blasting the fees charged by Panama for America's usage of the passageway.

"This complete ripoff of our country will immediately stop. It's going to stop," he said, adding, "The fees being charged by Panama are ridiculous, highly unfair."

"You get to treat us fairly, and they haven’t treated us fairly," Trump continued. "If the principles, both moral and legal, of this magnanimous gesture of giving are not followed, then we will demand that the Panama Canal be returned to us, in full, quickly and without question.”

Trump's sights are also set on building a "great Iron Dome" air defense network for the U.S., similar to Israel's missile defense shield.

"I will direct our military to begin construction of the great Iron Dome missile defense shield, which will be made all in the USA, much of it right here in Arizona," he said.

Trump has repeatedly said he will build a domestically made dome around the "entire country," with the pledge appearing in the Republican Party's pre-election commitments and its leader's "core promises." The Iron Dome intercepts short-range rockets and shells, but experts question its viability against intercontinental ballistic missiles, the likely main threat to the country.

Trump also announced plans to change the name of Denali back to Mount McKinley, reversing the 2015 decision to restore the mountain's traditional Alaska Native name. Trump cited President McKinley's financial contributions to the U.S. as a reason for the renaming.

The 20,000-foot peak was named Mount McKinley in 1917 in honor of former President William McKinley.  It was renamed Denali, the name used by Alaskan natives, in 2015 by President Barack Obama.
