Hiker dies at Utah park after running out of water

Police revealed that a 56-year-old woman who was hiking near a state park in southwestern Utah died over the weekend after she ran out of water on a hot day.

The Hurricane City Police Department said that emergency crews were notified on Sunday of a hiker “in distress due to not having enough water and the temperature being 106 degrees” at Quail Creek State Park.

When first responders arrived, they found the woman unresponsive. Rescuers attempted life-saving measures but were unsuccessful.

The death of the woman is one of several to be linked to high heat in the western United States over the last several weeks.

CBS News reports that over the previous weekend, three hikers died in state and national parks in Utah.

Two of those hikers, a father and daughter from Wisconsin, got lost on a strenuous hike in Canyonlands National Park as temperatures surpassed 100 degrees.

In Arizona, three hikers died in recent weeks at Grand Canyon National Park. At the park, summer temperatures on exposed parts of trails can surpass 120 degrees on hot days.

As for the victim at the Utah state park, police have not yet released her name or where she is from.
