Trump jokes about his ‘beautiful face’ with release of Trump Coins

“I’ve seen a lot of coins out these using my very beautiful face… I’m a very beautiful guy,” said former President Donald Trump in a video posted to his Truth Social account Saturday. “I’m only kidding. But they are not the official coins,” he added.

Just this week, Trump also said during a speech that the media doesn’t understand sarcasm and that he’s tried to give it up. Still, he’ll often get pushback on his jokes. For example, Audacy has reported on Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) firing back at jokes about the brutal attack on her husband, and about Trump trading barbs with former New Jersey governor Chris Christie.

In the new video, Trump announced the launch of collectible, 99.99% silver “Trump Coins” that will become available Wednesday. According to the official website for the new merchandise, the coins sell for $100 each and feature Trump’s face on one side and the White House on the other, with “In God We Trust” written above and his signature bordering the bottom.

“Trump Coins are designed by me and minted right here in the U.S.A. [This] beautiful, limited edition coin commemorates our movement, our fight for freedom, prosperity and putting America first,” said Trump, the current GOP candidate.

This is far from the first time that Trump has released merchandise.
Earlier this year, his camp launched signature sneakers that cost $400, “God Bless the U.S.A.” bibles that cost $60, a new lineup of digital trading cards and T-shirts apparently modelled after Taylor Swift’s “Eras Tour” merchandise (he later announced that he “hates” Swift after she endorsed his political opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris).

Last year, he released “mugshot merch” with his booking Fulton County, Ga., booking photo. Audacy reported that this “Never surrender” merchandise sold from $12 to $34 apiece and raised about $7.1 million for the Trump campaign in just the first three days on sale.

Of course, there are also the MAGA hats. Jared Kushner – Trump’s son-in-law, married to his daughter Ivanka – said in his memoir that the now iconic, red “Make America Great Again” hats that can be spotted at Trump’s rallies brought in $80,000 per day during the 2016 election cycle, according to The Independent.

Reports came out this week that Harris’ fundraising efforts exceeded Trump’s last month as we get closer to the 2024 election in November.

Those interested in getting Trump Coins can join a waitlist before the go on sale next week. Per the official site, they will be delivered in a custom felt bag and fitted capsule with a Certificate of Authenticity. Trump said the certificates will come with his signature on them.
