Even though the U.S. Constitution prevents President Donald Trump from serving another term in the White House, it seems like he might be preparing to do just that. If hats are anything to go by, that is.
Trumpstore.com is already selling “Trump 2028” hats, just a few months into his current four-year term.
“The future looks bright! Rewrite the rules with the Trump 2028 high crown hat,” said the description of the $50 item. “Fully embroidered with a snap closure in the back, this will become your new go-to hat.”
Since his first campaign for president for the 2016 election, Trump has made bright red “Make America Great Again” hats part of his political brand. Supporters can be found sporting various versions of the hat, including the dark, “gothic” MAGA hat favored by his advisor, multi-billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk.
According to the website, the new “Trump 2028” hat is made in America. During the first months of his new term, Trump has discussed his desire to bring more manufacturing to the U.S. and has said that is one of the goals he hopes to achieve with his controversial tariff moves.
By last November, ABC News reported that Trump had made millions selling merchandise. This January, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, a left-wing nonprofit group, reported that “the Trump Store launched at least 168 new products online costing $13,803.92 total between Election Day and Inauguration Day.”
Per the store, “due to high demand,” customers should expect “Trump 2028” orders to need 10 to 14 business days to process before shipping. Whether they can actually expect a third term for the current president is another matter.
During an interview with NBC News interview in March, Trump was asked about the possibility of seeking a third term, although it would be prohibited under the 22nd Amendment. Per an Audacy report, he answered by saying there were methods for doing so, noting that he was not joking about the possibility.
Trump also said “a lot of people want me to do it,” but added that it was still early on in his administration. One of the methods that has been suggested for him taking extra time in the Oval Office was situation where Vice President JD Vance would run for office and then pass the role to Trump.
“That’s one,” Trump said.
However, David Schultz, professor of political science at Hamline University, told Audacy’s WWL News Radio that technically, the “vice presidential loophole” doesn’t really exist. He said the only real way for Trump to get more time would be for him to get an amendment passed.
“You’d need to get two-thirds of both houses of Congress to adopt a constitutional amendment, and then it would have to be ratified by three-quarters of the states,” Schultz said, adding that “It’s just not going to happen.”
