46k pounds of food rescued from U.S. Open in Oakmont

Not only did the U.S. Open at Oakmont provide a huge economic boost to the region, it also donated more than 46,000 pounds of food to the Food Bank and 412 Food Rescue.

Ridgewells Catering, the USGA and Oakmont coordinated efforts to make sure unused, high-quality meals will be distributed to neighbors that need it.

This is the second time Ridgewells Catering has partnered with food assistance organizations in the Pittsburgh region for the US Open.

Donated food will go out to partners of the Food bank and 412 Food Rescue.

Non-food items will also be donated including plates, napkins and silverware.

“Donations like these are critical in feeding the most vulnerable members of our community. Our hope is that more food vendors see the beauty in donating when they’re finished with a large event. Food insecurity is at a record high in our region, and meals like these help our neighbors thrive,” said Holly Ramey, the Food Bank’s food recovery programs manager.
