Five juveniles charged, one remains at large after stolen car hit police officer

Pittsburgh Police says five juveniles are facing charges after one of the city's officers was injured during a police chase in Pittsburgh on Saturday morning.

Police say around 10 a.m. on October 11, two stolen vehicles were seen driving into the Zone 1 police station on the North Side, honking their horns.

Officers tracked the vehicles to Federal Street and Lafayette Avenue, and when officers tried to exit their patrol car, one of the stolen vehicles hit an officer and left the scene.

Police chased the stolen vehicles until one of them stopped along the Boulevard of the Allies and Grant Street downtown.

Four people were taken into custody in that vehicle. One suspect remains at large.

The other stolen vehicle was later found abandoned in Sheraden, no suspects found.

Police say three boys and two girls are facing felony and misdemeanor charges for “fleeing or attempting to elude police”, receiving stolen property, reckless endangerment and causing property damage.

Police say the juveniles are not being charged under Act 33, which allows suspects 15 or older to be charged as an adault.

The officer sustained moderate head injuries and drove themselves to a nearby hospital.
