Police will be looking for impaired drivers around Pittsburgh this weekend

Ahead of St. Patrick’s Day later this month, several agencies have teamed up to crack down on impaired driving in the area.

PennDOT, the PA DUI Association, AAA East Center and local police are conducting impaired enforcement this weekend, March 5-7.

Named “Operation Sober Shamrock, the enforcement will include roving DUI patrols.

In addition, local and State Police will be conducting DUI enforcement throughout the St. Patrick’s Day holiday season (March 7-17).

Over 80 departments are participating in “Operation Sober Shamrock” across Southwestern PA this weekend.

Those planning to drink should find a designated drive, cab, ride share or other safe way home.

A person is considered impaired in Pennsylvania when they have a blood alcohol concentration of .08 or higher, “However, someone with a lower BAC can have impaired judgment and reaction times as well.”
