Firefighters/EMTs save choking baby in North Fayette

North Fayette volunteer firefighters saved a choking baby Monday afternoon.

Deputy Chief Ian Richards noticed a vehicle in the parking lot of the fire house on Steubenville Pike and saw a mother get out in a panic along with the infant.

Richards says Firefighter and EMT Zac Cummings was able to administer “back blows” that allowed the child to breath normally once again.

The child was then taken to a local hospital for further evaluation.

Firefighters and EMTs James Gray, Brandon Spencer and Tyler Pilewski also helped during the incident.

“Quick thinking by the mother and quick action from the staffers allowed for the situation to be mitigated very quickly,” the VFD said in a release. “We are proud to staff our station with paid and volunteer staffers, their presence in the big red building on Steubenville Pike and their experience are invaluable to the community.”
