Allegheny General Hospital is starting a major renovation and expansion project in its emergency department.
The price tag? $43 million for a five-stage plan.
First up: a new waiting area and a space for patients waiting for test results.
It should be complete by this fall.
The entire project is expected to be finished by the end of 2027.
"At AGH, we are committed to providing exceptional care and services for every emergency health need, and this new facility will greatly expand our capacity to do so,” Dr. Imran Qadeer, AHN President said in a release. “It will be a facility that better accommodates the growing demand for emergency services and empowers one of the best emergency medicine teams in the country to excel in meeting that demand.”
When completed, the new AHN ED will have nearly 60 treatment rooms with 48 patient beds “designed with open sight lines to maximize care efficiency and patient safety. Utilizing ambient glass enclosures, each room will foster a transparent environment, improving visibility and navigation for both staff and patients.”
