Gas prices continue to climb in Western PA as Iran conflict drags on

Drivers across Southwestern Pennsylvania are feeling new pain at the pump, as gas prices surge to just shy of $4 a gallon.

Gas prices jumped Tuesday across the Pittsburgh region, with AAA reporting the average price for regular fuel now sitting at $3.80 a gallon, up sharply from just a month ago.

The national average is $3.84.

AAA East Central says the increase is tied to rising global oil prices fueled by the escalating conflict involving Iran.

Because crude oil makes up more than half the cost of gasoline, disruptions in key shipping routes like the Strait of Hormuz are sending ripple effects worldwide.

Oil prices have climbed roughly $26 per barrel since late February, driving steady increases locally.

Allegheny County now ranks among the highest gas-price areas in Pennsylvania, and analysts warn prices could continue climbing if global tensions persist.
