The Pittsburgh Penguins greatest player may be getting back into the fold.
The interest in reacquiring the team comes nearly four years after Mario Lemieux and co-owner Ron Burkle sold the Penguins in 2021 to Fenway Sports Group in a deal that valued the franchise at $900 million dollars.
Last month, The Athletic reported that former owners Lemieux and Burkle, as well as former chief executive officer David Morehouse, were exploring the possibility of a deal to buy back the Penguins.
FSG has maintained that it has no interest in selling the team at the moment but exploring adding a minority investor.
Despite that, The Athletic's Josh Yohe reports Lemieux's group is considering its financial options.
NHL commissioner Gary Bettman has also reportedly been made aware of the group's efforts.
