Looks like President Trump will make final decision on U.S. Steel deal

It looks like it will be President Trump himself making the final decision on Nippon Steel's planned buyout of US Steel.

That's because the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States reportedly couldn't come up with a unanimous decision to approve or reject it.

But Reuters says panelists think the potential national security risks could be addressed.

So that leaves the decision to President Trump. The latest plan calls for Nippon Steel to invest four billion dollars to build a new mill.

President Biden rejected Nippon Steel's earlier offer just before leaving, and President Trump had been an opponent of it as well, shortly after taking office...he said he preferred what he called an "investment in" US Steel by the Japanese steelmaker, rather than a buyout.
