Mayor Corey O’Connor spoke outside the City-County Building today after antisemitic threats and hateful messages were broadcast over Pittsburgh’s public safety radio system Monday. More threats were broadcast on Tuesday.
Officials say an unauthorized user accessed Allegheny County’s public safety radio system, broadcasting threats against Pittsburgh’s mayor.
“Obviously, there’s protocol for these types of things and I have all the faith in the Pittsburgh Police officers who are in charge of all these types of things,” said Mayor O’Connor.
O’Connor also said he doesn’t know what he was targeted.
“I had a synagogue planned, I was going to last night, did somebody know about that? I don’t know, but obviously we see too much hate speech in the world that we live in right now,” said O’Connor.
He says he has no explanation for the threats, adding his biggest concern isn’t for himself, but for his wife and two young children.
The broadcasts continued on Tuesday with more threats and hateful propaganda.
One message over the radio warned that extra security will be needed at the next events held at “the stadium.”
No specific venue was given.
