Oakmont Bakery says it stands behind employee taken by ICE

The owner of Oakmont Bakery strongly denies he had anything to do with the ICE arrest and detainment of an employee.

47-year-old Jose Flores, an Oakmont man living in the United States on a work visa, was taken by ICE agents last week.

Some community members have been calling the bakery and leaving messages, accusing owner Mark Serrao of being a traitor, saying that he turned Flores over to ICE. Serrao tells Marty Griffin, Flores is like family.

Serrao says no one at Oakmont Bakery ever called ICE to report Flores.

“I love him and why would I hire somebody and try to have them removed, that doesn’t even make sense,” said Serrao.

“It boils down to human beings, families, a little girl that watched her father be taken away by handcuffs, that’s what it boils down to,” said Serrao.

He says Flores has no criminal history and says he has every intention to fight to get Flores through the process to become an American citizen.

“His docket is completely clean,” added Serrao. “Great man, great father, great husband, great employee, great friend.”

Serrao says politicians from both sides of the aisle, including Senators John Fetterman and Dave McCormick - are working on Flores' behalf to get his case resolved.

Oakmont Bakery released a statement through an attorney on social media.

Members of the community in Oakmont have started a GoFundMe page to help support the Flores family.
