O'Connor administration says it inherited a major budget problem

Pittsburgh’s new administration says it’s inherited a major budget problem and now plans deep cuts to close a multi-million-dollar gap.

Mayor Corey O’Connor’s administration says Pittsburgh is dealing with a $30-to-$40-million budget gap, blaming underfunded programs and past reliance on city trust funds to cover costs.

Officials say the newly renovated Oliver Bath House, despite an $8 million upgrade, had no operating money budgeted for next year.

With federal pandemic aid gone, revenues falling, and overtime costs rising, the administration plans to reopen the budget and consider cuts, including leaving positions unfilled and canceling contracts, while keeping essential services running.
